Biggenden State School first opened on Monday, 9 May 1892.
The high school section of the school first started with an experiment in January 1953, with the enrolment of twelve students. The students initially studied for their junior examination via correspondence with lessons provided by the Teachers Training College. The experiment was conducted to gauge the opinion of a need for secondary education classes being run at Biggenden.
With the successful outcome of the experiment and positive feedback from the community, and support of local politicians the high school was formally established in 1958.
